Flexibility / Road conditions & Wildlife Protocol
Winter Spiti travel is entirely dependent on the Hindustan-Tibet road through Kinnaur (Kunzum Pass remains closed under deep winter snowpack from November through late June). Temperatures typically drop to -15°C to -25°C at night; running water is replaced by heated snow-melt. Travelers must carry rated -20°C clothing.
Wildlife Note: Snow leopard and Himalayan Ibex sightings depend on wild movements, terrain conditions, and patience; sightings are never guaranteed. All tracking adheres strictly to ethical community protocols without baiting or disturbance.
